The Ladakhis have a remarkable history inhabiting a land, which is not at all friendly towards human beings. It is a high-altitude-desert nowhere lower than 2.800 m with an annual rainfall of arround 120-150 mm and short summers as well as long and cold winters (with temperatures below -20°C). 99,6% of the area are uninhabitable.
